Concepts.

What constitutes a date? Well, according to dictionary.com, it's basically just a social engagement with another person, but usage of this term implies romantic interest by at least one person in the other. If the attraction is mutual, then that's great, but it doesn't always happen.

Usually it's dinner, a movie, good conversation, HHWW/goodnight kiss/other form of cuddling if they're lucky, and all those other stuff that give warm fuzzy feelings to the people on a date. A good way to understand what a date is, apart from actually going on one, is to go to the other end of the spectrum and describe what a date is not: a non-date.

TOP 5 SIGNS OF A TND (Total Non-Date):

1. The two of you go Dutch, ie. your date NDC (Non-Date Companion) does not pay for anything, not even a measly ice cream sundae.
2. Your NDC teases you about carbs when you mention that you want to eat.
3. Your NDC does not attempt to put his arm around you [or similar] in the movie theater.
4. Your NDC makes no move to lend you his jacket despite your many slightly exaggerated gestures of trying to keep yourself warm and the many muttered "Ang lamig,"s throughout the movie.
5. During all the times you glanced at your NDC during the movie, you did not catch him glancing at you. Not once.

Admittedly a date is better than a non-date, especially if you happen to be totally, give-him-the-last-slice-of-tiramisu, write-a-song-for-him into your NDC.

But here's the thing about non-dates, despite the non-dateness: they're fun. :)

Meme time!

Opening Credits: Aqueous Transmission - Incubus
I was found floating down the river, like that baby in the Bible story. Who was he/she, anyway? I forget...

Waking Up: Hard to Explain - The Strokes
Now this one's hard to explain.

First Day At School: Last Night - The Strokes
My first day of school, and already there's heartbreak.

Falling In Love: Torete - Moonstar88
WEH. The only Filipino song in my ipod and it hits the bull's-eye.

Fight Song: Barely Legal - The Strokes
[After skipping a lot of Japanese songs, I end up with The Strokes again.] I hate you, but I love you, that sort of thing, perhaps.

Breaking Up: Summer Skin - Death Cab For Cutie
And so, the summer fling ended.

Prom: Brothers On A Hotel Bed - Death Can For Cutie
My prom is a sad affair. I catch him making out with his brother on a hotel bed...[kidding :P]

Life is good: Nice to Know You - Incubus
I haven't felt the way I feel today...free of brothercest-ful prom date, maybe?

Mental Breakdown: When It Started - The Strokes
Hmm.

Driving: I Will Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab For Cutie
Not exactly a song for chilling though.

Flashback: Take It or Leave It - The Strokes
So I'm in denial about my past somewhere here, maybe?

Getting Back Together: The Modern Age - The Strokes
I so don't want to get back together with anyone, judging from the song.

Wedding: 11 AM - Incubus
"Forgive my indecision..." Do I get ditched at the altar??? Or maybe I do the ditching.:P

Birth of Child: No Other Way - Jack Johnson
Dedicated to the baby. Get some sleep.:P

Final Battle: Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me - Elton John
LOL.

Death Scene: Can You Feel The Love Tonight - Elton John
At least I die being loved. Sort of creepy though.

Funeral Song: Alone Together - The Strokes
Why not?

End Credits: Blood on the Ground - Incubus
Bitter, bitter.

Argh

But had fun with the Thailanders [haha :D] today. Thank you for listening. It's nice to know you've got my back. And you know you don't need to ask, but I got yours. :)

Grey's Anatomy!!!

Also, CRS still screwy. But sources said that if you go to Grades Viewing, you can see the subjects you pre-enlisted for next sem if you scroll all the way to the bottom. No sked though. And I got no ES 11. Helloooo.

Weh.

A distant, composed allure that many find irresistable. *snort* Riiight.

Only by blood

This is my sister and I.:) Her nickname is Kim, short for Kismet, which means destiny. Very cool name, right? My parents call her Kimi, and some neighbor used to call her Kiss *rolls eyes*. She looks more like my Mom, while I look like my Dad. I jokingly refer to this as my curse. Good thing I got his brains, at least.:P

I think we get along better than we used to. We both have short tempers so we used to fight a lot, and I'd snipe at her whenever I'd get the chance. [Yeah, I was evil.] But now we both mellowed down, so peace reigns in the household most of the time.

Got me thinking about nicknames, though. If you call me...

Trisha: you are probably my relatives, or my Dad when he's pissed at me.
Trish: you're my Dad [normally], Vanessa, Tot.
Patrice: you're definitely my Mom.
Patricia: you're maybe a grade school classmate. Maybe.
Pia: you're an acquaintance in my Dad's hometown.
Pachuchay: you are Chires. If not, you're just annoying [kidding, kidding :P].
Patring: you're probably someone older I've known since childhood who's either being malambing or teasing me.
Punk
: you can only be...Monts.
Legs: you are a goddess! 'Nuff said.
Fat-ass: you are Angel, and I miss you to bits!!!
Patto: you're Japanese :P
Patto-chan: you're Akane, Eri, Hang, maybe someone in the yosakoi club, Ishimatsu-sensei and the guys in his lab, Takeyama-san or Rena.
Papapapatto: you're Toshi [who I call Totototoshi].
Pat [default nickname]: you're part of everyone else, although that doesn't necessarily mean we aren't friends. :)

Anyway, I like giving nicknames to my friends, or using nicknames for them that aren't usually used by others [even if it's just in my phonebook, or whatever]. It's fun.:D

[Someone make a nickname entry, too! I wanna read about YOUR nicknames.:D]

The adjustment process

[listening to] Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson (Cute song. His album is highly recommended. :D)

Stuff I've gotten used to, all over again:
1. KEM. KEMers [although I need to get to know quite a lot], apps [ditto], the tambayan, everything.:)
2. The heat. It WAS summer when I left Japan, but still. Hot.
3. The fact that I'm in UP, able to walk on its tree-lined avenues...
4. Although now, post-Milenyo, those same avenues look like some ill-tempered giant baby thrashed them.
5. Being able to buy iced tea for the low low price of P14! Excellent.

Stuff taking time to get used to:
1. All the "Tumaba ka!" comments. I know they're true, but they make me feel like such a fat cow. Just give me a little more time to get desensitized.:)
2. The whole bureaucracy thing. I still need to pass a letter to the OUR, but at least I can pre-enlist now.
3. Some cranky admin people. Part and parcel of UP life.
4. The commute from UP to home. It isn't like we live terribly far away, but it can get pretty bad. I definitely need to live in a dorm or boarding house to survive.

*
Just finished pre-enlisting, though I'm prolly going to tweak it tomorrow. I'm determined not to get a certain prof for a certain major, so I'm hoping that CRS grants me the class I chose. Glad that the demand in ES 11 isn't unbearably high.:D Also will get IE 3 and STS with Jerome.*crosses fingers* Since I'm a year behind, and he's finished all his ES subjects, GEs are the only way we'll ever be classmates. So...yeah.

Still have one 3-unit subject left though --- choosing among Eng 30, Stat 101, Art Stud 1 or 2, and PI 100. I plan on getting an MHX section [which will hopefully erase all possibilities of landing in certain prof's class...] and wouldn't mind taking it with an orgmate or two [or three, four, you get the idea :P]. So. Any takers?:D
